Innovator Space Prayogshala

The Innovator Space Prayogshala is run in an online Teach For India classroom, featuring Project Prayogshala’s attempt to facilitate ‘making’ during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Innovator Space Prayogshala is set up for the Class 8 students of MMDA 1 School, Chennai, under the Teach For India initiative. The Prayogshala sessions are conducted as part of the online classes held for students, and it aims to function as a space for students to form ideas, brainstorm, learn, and build together at a time when physical collaboration with peers is not a possibility.

As a first step towards setting up the Innovator Space prayogshala, Project Prayogshala collaborated with Nikita to implement the online module of Prayogshala at their Teach For India classroom. The classroom has 35 students who are in the 13-14 years age group. This virtual Prayogshala aims to inculcate important 21st-century skills such as creativity, collaboration, teamwork, frugality, etc. while bringing out the makers in the children. With children being holed up at their homes, there is very little chance for a creative outlet. By facilitating an online space where they can collectively collaborate with their peers, experiment, and put their ideas into action, the facilitator Nikita hopes to make sure that children gain essential soft skills, maker skills, and hands-on knowledge in times of online classes. The children have been engaging actively, and they look forward to the learning and collaboration opportunity created by Prayogshalas in every session. The unanimous positive reception of the sessions among the facilitator, children, and parents attests to the impactful learning and collaborative environment that this Prayogshala creates.
