Collaboratory is a makerspace established for Class 5 students to improve their maker skills during the virtual learning times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Collaboratory Prayogshala is set up to bring out the makers in the class 5 students of the Chennai Primary School, Thiruvanmiyur as part of their Teach for India classes. This prayogshala facilitates a space for children to form unique ideas, innovate, and learn important science concepts and imbibe essential soft skills that’ll help them grow into well-rounded individuals.
To set up the Collaboratory Prayogshala, the Project Prayogshala Team collaborated with Sanjana, an enthusiastic Teach for India Fellow who runs the prayogshala for 63 students in the 9-10 age group. The facilitator, Sanjana, strives to ensure that children enjoy the making sessions and also look forward to the upcoming ones. Collaboratory is a space where the children seek solace in the fact that they can openly share their ideas, build connections with their peers through insightful conversations and finally come up with creations with an in-depth understanding of the working of their creations. Multiple sessions focused on science concepts, soft skills and art and craft have been conducted for the students. The making sessions have hugely helped in improving the confidence and communication skills of children by way of the creative freedom that’s provided to them during the sessions.
