Things that fly and bounce are objects of fascination for almost all the children. In this activity, we will combine the process of creating something fun and scientific at the same time. This activity is all about creating a paper plane launcher. A paper plane launcher is nothing but a simple paper airplane that is launched using a rubber band. Using this activity, we can help children explore the concept of elasticity and aerodynamics.

Special Instructions for Teachers:
Focus on the concept of Elasticity
Encourage students to explore the elasticity of multiple materials through this activity. Students can be encouraged to use different materials around them such as cotton thread as the launcher to explore their elasticity. Facilitate a discussion on the properties of elastic materials and their different uses.
Experiment with different aeroplane models
Encourage students to fold different aeroplane models and use them with the launcher. Students can experiment to find which kind of aeroplane flies the farthest. Encourage them to think why certain kinds of models fly further than the others.
Longest Flight Challenge
As an add-on to the activity, a fun longest travel challenge can be organised among the students. The students can be encouraged to design their own aeroplane models and launcher to make the longest travel possible.
