It is often said that one way to go around the world from one place is through the world of books. While reading does take us to faraway places with imagery, today, we are going to explore Indian states through maps!
Through this activity, we can get kids acquainted with not just the Indian states and capitals, but also with the various attributes of a particular region, such as the prevalent food crops, minerals, resources, fabrics, monuments, and even the cultural heritage and practices. Now, let’s get into making our Indian map puzzle!

Special Instructions for Teachers:
Stress on concepts of diversity and inclusivity
Talk about the diversity among the people and the varying cultural practices and beliefs throughout our country. Ensure children grasp that despite the diversity among people, being inclusive and mutually respecting everyone is very important.
Encourage gifting it to the library or game room
Once the session is over, kids can be encouraged to gift their creation to a school library/game room or even to a younger sibling, further aiding younger makers to get familiarised with the Indian map and states.
Ensure a state’s attribute is included in the presentation
While students present their puzzle to the rest of the class, each student from a group should pick one state and mention one interesting fact or attribute of the state.
You can even make this more interesting by putting chits with states’ names and asking children to pick one out and mention a fact about the picked state.
Differentiate between states and union territories
If kids are not already familiar with union territories, introduce the concept, get them to identify the union territories, and explain the differences between states and union territories.
